Let’s Get Textin’!

Everyone’s already got their noses in their phones (98% of Americans own a mobile phone), so why not connect with people where they’re already spending their time?

Cut through the noise

Text-to-give is a valuable supplementary fundraising tool that is efficient, practical, and taps into new donor segments who might not subscribe to emails or follow along on Facebook. Indeed, texting is the top mobile activity for 83% of consumers and nearly 95% of text messages are opened, compared to a 12% of emails.

Before hitting “send”

Texting is easy––we all do it. But it’s important to get a plan in place before hitting send. How will text-to-give fit into your existing strategy? Where could you use more engagement?

Building the groundwork of a text-to-give campaign can start in two places:

You already collect donor phone numbers and have permission to use them.

Great! Now it’s time to start looking at text-to-give tools and creating an approach strategy. Many donor databases already support text-to-give, but there are a wide variety of products out there that easily integrate into existing strategies.

You don’t currently collect phone numbers.

There’s no time like the present to start! When adding to your database, consider good text-to-give scenarios and make a plan for how you’ll begin collecting phone numbers (and permission to use them!)

Most importantly, whatever tool you end up using—whether it’s your current database or a dedicated text-to-give service—make sure you always provide a way to opt out. Text is a great way to reach donors, but the last thing you want to do is pester people if they prefer to be reached another way.

Say “YES” to text-to-give:

  • It’s accessible—Reach donors anywhere, anytime.

  • It’s speedy—Instant delivery and donation capability.

  • It’s easy—Ideal for today’s on-the-go donors.

  • It’s supplementary––Alongside email, social media, and live events, texts reinforce other fundraising efforts.
