KATY SULLIVAN
Communications + Fundraising + Project Management
During her career, Katy has done a bit of everything, working with companies, startups, hospitals, nonprofits, and more. Giving Katy one title would be hard because it could include communications strategy, media relations, project management, fundraising, and social media expertise, among other skills.
Given that versatility, it’s no surprise Katy acts as both project manager and resource. This turns into valuable insight and strategy, as Katy can steward a client relationship while also pitching in as content producer or communications expert. All in one status meeting with a nonprofit, Katy might share a new grant opportunity she discovered in a prospecting deep dive, help them craft a news story pitch, and walk through a year-end campaign brief she built out.
A quick study, Katy is able to absorb a 75-page RFP or immerse herself in a first-of-Amp's-kind project like our partnership with the Minnesota Council on Foundations and their Minnesota State Share campaign. Her expertise also helped clients build their presence as thought leaders, offering guidance on positioning and promoting their organizations’ work—while staying true to their mission and community.
Katy enjoys the challenge and creativity of finding the right words to tell clients’ stories—and AmplifyDMC’s. Katy somehow finds the time to lead our internal “AmpAmp” work as we celebrate our staff and clients, offer tips and tools, and contribute to the nonprofit conversation on social media and our website.
Ask the Ampster: Can you share a memorable volunteering or fundraising experience you’ve had?
Several years ago, I reflected on what kind of donor I wanted to be and what causes were most meaningful to me. I determined that literacy had been a really important part of my life, and learning was—and still is—a core family value. I found Literacy Minnesota and became a donor. They had an amazing donor stewardship person who reached out to learn about me as a new supporter. I was at the point of job transition and had some knowledge of the healthcare sector so she connected me with Northstar Digital Literacy and I have done skills-based volunteering with them ever since. I remain passionate about the advantages all types of literacy can offer.
