KELLY CLARK
Writing + Fundraising + Project Management
Kelly’s title may be senior writer, but what she brings to the role, and to our clients, draws on nearly 20 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, where she developed expertise in program management, volunteer engagement, and compliance while working for national organizations including the American Red Cross, NMDP (formerly Be the Match), and AFS-USA Intercultural Programs.
Just as Amplify’s clients benefit from the “Whole DMC” (development, management, and communications), they find value in Kelly’s versatility. She writes it all—grant proposals, e-newsletters, social media, “big asks,” and appeal letters for starters—but is just as comfortable shifting into a project management role, lending sound advice on a nonprofit’s new program design, or sitting with an executive director to talk through and refine a case for support.
Moving seamlessly between those worlds builds a level of trust and thought partnership with clients that gives Kelly’s writing the clarity and insight to strengthen their grant proposals, program descriptions, and storytelling. She’s also quick with a quip on the Ampsters Teams chat, a witty addition to the Amplify culture. Learn more about Kelly here!
Ask the Ampster: Can you share a memorable volunteering or fundraising experience you’ve had?
Interning with Make-A-Wish Minnesota in college was a formational professional experience and meaningful introduction to the nonprofit sector. The role required wearing many hats, of which the most intimidating to me was soliciting donations! The well-rounded internship exposed me to how an organization puts a logic model into action to achieve impact: from training volunteers to engaging donors to coordinating wishes to writing impact articles for the newsletter. I took away from this experience a keen understanding of the importance of the throughline, something I continue to center in my communications and development work today.
